No Gables Gallery Night July 4th
Gables Gallery Night, usually held from 7 to 10pm every first Friday of the month, will not be held on July 4th because of the Independence Day holiday. "Nearly all of our members plan to be closed, so we decided to take the night off and go see the fireworks like everyone else," said Virginia Miller, owner and director of ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries and president of the Coral Gables Gallery Association. Lowe Art Museum: Excavating Egypt
Visit the Lowe on the UM campus soon to see the exceptional exhibit of Egyptian artifacts. Excavating Egypt: Great Discoveries from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, University College, London, will be on view at the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami through November 2nd. The major traveling exhibition tells the story of British pioneer and archaeologist, Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853-1942) and his exploration of ancient Egyptian civilization. Petrie, known as the Father of Egyptian Archaeology for his innovations and contributions to the field (and the inspiration for the film hero Indiana Jones) excavated in Egypt for well over half a century. Excavating Egypt features 221 of Petrie's most significant finds -- many never before seen by the public. $10 non-members; $5 seniors. The museum is located at 1301 Stanford Drive near the Gables campus main entrance.

Fourth Of July At The Barnacle
The Barnacle Society invites you to celebrate the Fourth of July with an old-fashioned picnic at The Barnacle Historic State Park. Lawn games, board games, knot tying demonstrations, kite making, crafts, and a scavenger hunt will keep the whole family entertained and in a sporting mood. Live music adds additional entertainment and atmosphere to the park already decked out in traditional Fourth of July bunting.
