Property Appraiser Candidates Debate
On Columbus Day from 4pm to 5:30pm the Ponce De Leon Business Association of Coral Gables will host a forum for the four Miami-Dade Property Appraiser candidates at the University of Miami BankUnited Center. This free event, open to the public will be held in the Hurricane 100 Room (H-100) of the Coral Gables campus located at 1245 Dauer Drive. Former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferre will serve as moderator. There is free parking on the East Parking Lot in front of the BankUnited Center. The purpose of this forum is to provide Miami-Dade's electorate more information about all four candidates for this new, elected position. The Property Appraiser will take over an office of over 300 county employees, and be responsible only to the State for his or her actions. It will be the job of the Property Appraiser to see all properties in Miami-Dade are valued fairly according to State Statutes for taxation. In this time of rapidly changing real estate values, the guidance in the Property Appraiser's office will be important for tax rolls and property owners. The candidates are: Pedro Garcia, Real Estate Broker and Professional Property Appraiser; Eddie Lewis, Entrepreneur and former Miami-Dade Corrections Officer; Gwen Margolis, retiring State Senator and Real Estate Broker; James Shedd, retired Senior DEA Agent.
