The Book of Ruth depicts the life of an Argentine woman who escaped the Holocaust when young, Now in her 70's she encounters amidst her memories the ghosts of her past. Spanning the years 1920 through 1980, the play celebrates the mystery of life and the power of survival against all odds. Barbara Poleo of Past Perfect Florida History will be the guest speaker for the Miami Pioneers and Natives Of Dade monthly meeting with a program on James Edmundson Ingraham, railroad engineer and administrator of Henry Flagler's properties in Florida. Ingraham Highway, the coastal road that connected Miami with Royal Palm Park and Flamingo in the Everglades (now known as Old Cutler Road) was named for him. "Florida's Renaissance Man: James Edmundson Ingraham" will be the title of this presentation, covering his career in Florida from 1874 until his death in 1924. The program will focus on his activities and connections to Dade County (including the Ingraham Highway). This period of time saw a "rebirth" of Florida following the Civil War and the efforts to develop Florida's resources. Mr. Ingraham had a vision of our state's potential based on first-hand experiences and positioned himself at the forefront of the movement southward. The presentation will include some rare photographs from his own collection. The monthly meeting of the MP/NOD group takes place at 2pm at Central Christian Church, 222 Menores Avenue.
