Elvis' Blue Hawaii At Cosford Cinema
One of Elvis Presley's most successful post-Army vehicles, Blue Hawaii casts Elvis as scion to a Hawaiian pineapple fortune. His snooty mother, Angela Lansbury, wants Presley to take over the management of the family business, but he'd rather make his own way in the world. He lands a job at a tourist agency, and incidentally finds time to be distracted by such beauties as Joan Blackman and Nancy Walters. Steve Brodie, as ever, is on hand to drag Elvis into an outsized brawl. Among the songs featured in the film are the title number (originally written in 1937 for Bing Crosby), "Can't Help Falling in Love" and "Rock-a-Hula Baby." Rated PG. This beautiful Technicolor print is part of the University of Miami School of Communication's Moving Image Archives and is being presented with generous support from the University of Miami Citizens Board. Baghead At Cosford Cinema
After seeing the accolades heaped on a colleague for his laughable film at a Los Angeles film festival, Matt (Ross Partridge) decides that he can do better. With his sometime girlfriend Catherine (Elise Muller), and friends Michelle (Greta Gerwig) and Chad (Steve Zissis) in tow, they immediately set off to a cabin in the woods for the weekend to create the film that will make them all famous on the festival circuit. While Chad focuses his energy on winning the affections of uninterested Michelle, Matt comes up with the cinematic construct of a stranger with a paper bag on his head terrorizing a group of people in the woods. After the initial evening of brainstorming though, the idea becomes reality and the friends' relationships are tested as they find themselves in a truly scary situation. The result is clever, funny and refreshingly difficult to classify. Rated R. The film begins at 8pm at Cosford Cinema on the second floor of the Memorial Classroom building on UM campus. Cash only.
