Preparing for Eternity: The Mystery of Mummies
Sue D'Auria will present a look into the ancient Egyptian process of mummification and Egyptian Funerary rituals. The ancient Egyptians went to great lengths to prepare for their voyage into the afterlife. This lecture will discuss the preparations that were considered essential, including the treatment of the body, religious and magical artifacts to accompany the deceased, and the tomb that housed it all. Ms. D'Auria is an Egyptologist who spent nearly twenty years in the Egyptian Department at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She has co-organized several exhibitions, including Mummies and Magic and Pharaohs of the Sun.
